- Academic year 2008-2009
To qualify for the prize, the candidates must be undergraduate or postgraduate students of the Department of History, the Law School and the Political Science Department of any Greek University.
The period of Eleftherios Venizelos' government is connected with the rise of the middle class and the establishment of institutions and infrastructures favorable for the development of financial activity. As in the rest of Europe, this development in Greece has been parallel to the reinforcement of individual rights. In this sector, the provision of effective judicial protection by creating a Council of State is even more important than the substantial provisions in matters such as personal security or property. The parallel courses of urban development and law have not been coincidental; they were ideologically driven by Eleftherios Venizelos and the Liberals. Even though it was interrupted after the Interwar period, this progress remains an interesting subject for research, in relation to socio-political conditions, as well as special provisions and consequences.
For the academic year 2008-2009, the Evaluation Committee of the Foundation awarded:
• the 2nd prize to Leonidas Archaniotakis, postgraduate student of the Political Science Department of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Crete;
• the 3rd prize to Nikolaos Theodorakis, student of the Law School of the University of Athens.
