Research for the war pensions of war victims 1912-1922.

Helen Katsiadakis, scientific advisor of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” and Emerita of the Modern Greek History Research Centre, Academy of Athens, has recently published an article titled “War pensions in Greece: Healing the social wounds of a decade of war” in The Macedonian Front, 1915-1918. Politics, Society and Culture in Time of War. Edited by Basil Gounaris, Michael Llewellyn-Smith and Ioannis Stefanidis (Routledge 2022), 237-245.
The article is based mainly on her research in the collection of documents War Pensions of war victims 1912-1922 held by the Venizelos Foundation. The collection consists of 303 case files containing applications for war benefits, pensions and allowances, submitted to and processed by the regional authorities in Crete.
For her research, the author compiled a database and produced a website that is now available at https://int-heuristweb-prod.intersect.org.au/heurist/?db=hkats_war_victim_pensions&website. The visitor can use search filters to access the material of the 303 files and information on the victims and their next-of-kin.
The interface of the database and all the texts of the website are in English. The data (persons, places, archival records) are in Greek. The vocabularies used in the database are bilingual.
