Event dedicated to the Greek Diaspora

The annual event organised by the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” in honour of the Greek diaspora was held on Wednesday, 6 August, in the courtyard of the Metropolitan Irineos Galanakis Hall in Halepa, Chania. The theme of the event was “Venizelos in the World. The Branches of the ‘Eleftherios K. Venizelos’ Foundation in the USA and Oceania – Honouring Greeks of the Diaspora”, with keynote speaker Alexandros Kitroeff, Emeritus Professor of History at Haverford College.
The event opened with an introductory address by the General Director of the Foundation, Nikolaos Papadakis (Papadis). This appearance was to be his last public one.
The aims and activities of the Foundation’s branches in the USA and Oceania were presented by Nikolaos Kastrinakis, President of the Venizelos Foundation USA and the World Council of Cretans, and Anastasios Tamis, member of the Board of Directors of the National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” – Australian Branch, and Director of the Australian Institute for Hellenic Research.
The event concluded with the induction of new Partners of the Foundation: Iosif Kokolakis, President of Kokolakis Contracting, and Sokratis Tsourdalakis, historian and author.

Venizelos’ Legacy in the Contemporary Political Landscape
With the presence of Professor Dr Larry Howard, the lecture titled "Who Eleftherios Venizelos Truly Was" took place in New York, USA.
