28 Mar Commemorative events for Eleftherios Venizelos’ death anniversary.
Two-day events will take place in Chania to commemorate the anniversary of Eleftherios Venizelos’ death. The government will be represented by the Deputy Minister of Education, Religions, and Sports, Zetta M. Makri.
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the National Foundation for Research and Studies “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” in Halepa, the awards of the Panhellenic Student Essay Competition for the 3rd High School grade will be presented. The topic is: “The settlement of refugees in Greece after the Asia Minor Catastrophe (1922)” and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religions. The event will conclude with the appointment of the Foundation’s new partners.
On Sunday, March 31, at 11:30 a.m., the annual political memorial service for Eleftherios and Sofoklis Venizelos will be held at the Venizelos Tombs. The speaker will be Evanthis Hatjivasileiou, Professor at the University of Athens, Secretary General of the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament for Parliamentarism and Democracy.
Before the memorial service, an Archieratical Divine Liturgy will be held at the Holy Church of Prophet Elias, presided over by the Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas, Damaskinos.
