Conference “Public Health and Social Policy: Eleftherios Venizelos and his era” (Athens, 08-10.11.2007).

The Foundation and the National School of Public Health organised a conference on the topic “Public Health and Social Policy: Eleftherios Venizelos and his era” in Athens, November 8-10, 2007 (Amphitheatre of the National School of Public Health).
The conference aimed at exploring the development problems of public health and social policy, as well as the importance and the interpretation of the institutions and the choices made during the early 20th century until the end of the Interwar period.
The conference was attended by university professors, doctors, historians and researchers and the discussed thematic units were: medicare and health insurance organisation, public health problems and related measures, infrastructure networks and public health in Greece and Europe (19th -20th century), policies and institutional measures for labour conditions and professional pathology, social policy and welfare for sensitive population groups, the state of welfare and social security.
The opening of the conference was made by the Minister of Health and Welfare, Dimitrios Avramopoulos and short speeches were given by Giannis Kiriopoulos, Professor at the National School of Public Health and president of the Conference Organisation Committee, the Foundation’s CEO, Nikolaos Papadakis, the MP of Chania, Christos Markogiannakis as a representative of the President of the Parliament, the Prefect of Chania, Grigoris Arhontakis as the Foundation’s Vice Chairman. The undersecretary of Health and Welfare, Georgios Papageorgiou, MPs, Hospital Managers, etc, also attended the conference.
