Event on the Treaty of Lausanne in London

In the Great Hall of King’s College in London, in front of a large audience, an event commemorating the 100 years since the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne took place on Saturday, November 4, 2023. The event, titled “The Significance of the Lausanne Treaty: International Dimensions,” was co-organized by the Anglo-Hellenic League, the Centre for Hellenic Studies at King’s College, and the Association of Constantinopolitans in the United Kingdom, with the support of the National Research and Studies Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos.” Gonda Van Steen, Professor of Modern Greek and Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies at King’s College, delivered a welcome address.
The first part of the event featured the screening of the documentary “Venizelos, Struggle for Asia Minor,” introduced by the film’s producer, Leonidas Liambeys. The second part was dedicated to the work of the Anglo-Hellenic League.
The event concluded with a scholarly meeting coordinated by the British historian Bruce Clark, with presentations (in English) by Eleni Katsiadaki, Maria Fafaliou, and Ceyda Karamursel. An engaging discussion followed with questions from the audience.
