Historical Tribute in Chios

An event dedicated to Elena Skylitsi-Venizelos and the people of Chios in the diaspora was held on Saturday, 27 September 2025, at the Homerion Cultural Centre in Chios. It was organised by the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” in cooperation with the Chios Bar Association and the Chios Medical Association, with the support of the Region of the North Aegean and the Municipality of Chios.
The event was held in memory of Nikolaos Papadakis (Papadis), General Director of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos.” The speakers were Anthippi Zannara, President of the Chios Bar Association; Giorgos Koukourakis, Deputy Director of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos”; Andreas Michailidis, physician at the Skylitseio Hospital of Chios and PhD of the University of Thessaly; Maria-Christina Chatzioannou, Emeritus Research Director at the National Hellenic Research Foundation; and Gelina Harlaftis, Professor of Maritime History at the University of Crete and Director of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies. The event was moderated by actress Kalliroi Myriagkou. It opened with a performance by the Chios Choir, conducted by Phaedra Giannelou. In the second part, the documentary Venizelos: The Struggle for Asia Minor (produced by the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” ERT and Long Run Productions) was screened.
On the previous day, a twinning ceremony between the Bar Associations of Chios and Chania, as well as their respective Lawyers’ Mutual Support Funds, took place at the Homerion Cultural Centre. Following the ceremony, Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Athens Nikos Alivizatos held a discussion with Giorgos Koukourakis, Deputy Director of the National Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos,” on the topic “Where is our political system heading today, and what is the role of Justice?”.

The National Research Foundation “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” participated at the 1st International Festival of Creativity in Milan.
