On Monday, February 11th, 2008, the presentation of the volume "Η εκπαιδευτική πολιτική στα χρόνια του Ελευθερίου Βενιζέλου" ("Educational Policy in the years of Eleftherios Venizelos"), published by the Foundation and the editions Ellinika Grammata, was held at the Ceremony Hall of the University of Athens.
The presentation was organised by the Foundation with the support of the University of Athens and the speakers were Euripides Stilianidis, Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs, Petros Efthimiou, former Minister of National Education and Religious Affairs – MP of the second district of Athens and Manolis Pimplis, Journalist.
An introductory speech was given by the Professor Ioannis Karakostas, Vice Chancellor of the University of Athens and interpositions were made by Alexis Dimaras, Education Historian and the Substitute Professor Theodoros Fortsakis, Deputy President of the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens. The event was coordinated by Nikolaos Papadakis, CEO of the Foundation.
The volume's topic is educational policy during the first half of the 20th century through the presentation and exploration of Venizelos' and of his governments' basic choices in the sector of education as well as the examination of educational reforms that were integrated in the political and social context of his time.
It is the result of a scientific dialogue, comprising papers of academics, professors, and researchers relating to the institutional context of Venizelos' educational policy, the relationship between education and language, technical education, the realisation of educational reforms, the objectives and programmes covering the period of the beginning of the Cretan State to the mid 20th century.
The volume was published with the funding of the associate, grand sponsor and benefactor of the Foundation, Emmanouil Emm. Mihailakis.
