n the occasion of the 70 years of the Movement of 1938, the Municipality of Hania, the National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos" and the Historical and Folklore Association of Crete, with the support of the Prefecture of Hania, have organised an event on Friday, December 5th , 2008 in the Administrative and Scientific Services Building of the Foundation (Halepa).
The speakers were Evanthis Hatzivasiliou, Assistant Professor at the University of Athens on the topic "The last movement of the Interwar Period: a comparative assessement", Dimitris Nikolakakis, writer, on the topic "The events in Crete", Antonis Skamnakis, President of the Daily Regional Newspapers' Association and Tutor at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Athens, on the topic "The position of the Press on the movement", and Petros Papapolyviou, Assistant Professor at the University of Cyprus, on the topic "Cretan refugees of 1938 in Cyprus: Their arrival and establishment in Pafos. Survival and political action (1938-1944)".
After the end of the speeches, Evanthis Hatzivasiliou was acclaimed associate of the National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos".
The Foundation also hosted an exhibition of photographs and other exhibits relating to the movement of 1938.
